In 2014 the hubby gave me a voucher for my birthday for a sewing workshop at the Guthrie Ghani haberdashery in Moseley. I was pregnant with the babe at the time so didn't get to use the voucher until July 2015. I decided to go for the Introduction to Knits workshop as I'd had little experience with stretch fabrics before and usually stuck to wovens.
It was a fantastic day where we all made our own version of the Tilly and the Buttons Coco dress. The pattern was included in the workshop price and we just had to take along the fabric and matching thread.
We were shown how to cut out the fabric successfully and were fully supported in making the dress. I think everyone went home with a completed garment which is such a great feeling especially since most of us were beginners!
I've since made two versions of the top, both with the cowl neck and another dress.
This is a super easy make and very quick to run off once you get the hang of it. And sewing with knits isn't as scary as it seems. In my limited experience you just need to be aware of where the garment will stretch and use the right stitch at those points which, in my case, is a zig zag stitch on my normal sewing machine.
Hubby said that he gave me the voucher because I'd been watching a lot of The Great British Sewing Bee and getting all inspired! Well it certainly worked!
