Operation Christmas Child 2018

In the past my son has made up a box through school for the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child project.

My mum regularly collects bits for the boxes and sends them to the collections point near her. So when at the beginning of September when a friend suggested making things for the boxes I offered to help. Initially she wanted to do something crafty and a few of us got our sewing machines together at a coffee morning but it wasn't the best space to do this kind of work in. When I sew I need the whole of the dining room and half the kitchen! I made a couple of elasticated headbands with no pattern and they're ok but not my best work!

But despite that I dug out all my scraps and went in search of some projects to make for the boxes.

Pinterest has plenty of pins and I've had a board to collect ideas for a while. I decided to go quite simple and made some templates for a purse...

... a scrunchie...

... a little bag...

... a pencil case

And I cobbled together some crochet scarves with remnants of wool from my stash...

Next weekend is the deadline for collections so these have gone off to be boxed. I hope their recipients like them as much as I enjoyed making them.
