Last week I made this Pumpkin Cardi Dress which I'd been swooning over for a while. It's by one woman band and total girl boss Ana who has a range of patterns under CocoWawa Crafts.
This pattern comes with two sleeve options (long or sleeveless), two necklines (scoop and v-neck), two lengths (cardigan and dress), two pockets (welt or in-seam) and two band options (plain or ruffle). Phew! I chose the dress length with long sleeves, a v-neck, plain hem band and welt pockets.
I'd seen some versions on Instagram which I loved and gave me ideas for making one up with contrast colour bands. I found the blue leopard print french terry on Loubodu Fabrics and I'm all for animal prints at the moment so I couldn't resist! This was £12 pm and I needed 1.5m for the main fabric and 1m of navy ponte for £4.95 from Barrys.
I had originally planned to do the welt pockets in the navy ponte but I decided that I didn't want to draw attention to them if I made a mess since this was my first attempt at them! But I needn't have worried! They were very easy to do - quick even! And Ana has a sew along Youtube video with the specific time noted in the paper instructions on where to find the welt pocket section. I watched this first and that made it much simpler. The instructions have you do the pockets at the end but I decided to do them first so that I didn't have to deal with all the fabric pieced together and I didn't see what difference it would make to do them at the start. And once this part was out of the way it all came together quite quickly. I didn't do button holes because the whole thing can but put on over my head so I just sewed the buttons on through both layers of the centre band.
I'm really pleased with how it came out, but I think I could probably size down next time. Thanks to my boy for taking the photos!
